Roveglio Cottage - a rural Alpine retreat on Lake Como
Roveglio is a beautifully restored and well-equipped cottage on an early 19th century hill-farm, producing award-winning olive oil and organic cheese and - from 2022 - carbon neutral. Five minutes drive up from the lakeside town of Lenno, the air is fresh and scented with wild herbs, the views are stunning and instead of traffic you hear church bells and crickets. The Anglo-Italian owners, Jeannie and Paul, will be glad to help you plan your holiday.

The last stretch of the road is both steep and narrow and unsuitable for cars with low suspension.

Activities around Lake Como
Lake Como has something to offer for everyone. There’s so much to do that we can’t describe it all here. After 25 years we’re still finding new things to do and places to go!
There’s the weekly Lenno market, the beautiful villas such as Villa Balbienello and Villa Carlotta, lakeside towns and villages like Bellagio and Varenna as well as the cities of Como and Milan.
There are (a few) flatter walks near the lakeside and steeper walks along the ridges and up the valleys, such as the Three Monasteries Walk.
Lenno has its own lido (private beach) as well as a number of public swimming beaches, you can hire motorboats, kayaks or just take ferries to get around.
And there are great restaurants and bars, both in Lenno and nearby, where you can enjoy the view and watch the world go by.
Paul grew up in England but spent every summer in Italy with his Italian family. His parents restored the Roveglio buildings and Paul’s ambition is to restore and replant the olive terraces, while Jeannie manages the lettings.
As we mainly live in England, we both rely heavily on Antonella the farmer, who cleans the Cottage, makes the cheese and runs the farm.

Olio di Oliva di Roveglio - won a gold medal at the 2018 New York International Olive Oil Competition and best in class in 2019. In 2021 it won a gold award at the Athen competition.
The olive oil is produced by traditional methods. The olives are all from trees growing on the steep terraces of Roveglio farm; some of these trees are over 100 years old. The olives are of the Frantoio (95%) and Pendolino (5%) varieties. Picked in the late autumn by hand, and brought the same day to the Vanini mill in the town of Lenno, only a few minutes from Roveglio, the olives are cold-pressed in a single, mechanical pressing. Roveglio Cheeses
Antonella produces a variety of cheese every day from the milk from her goats and and nearby cows. These include fresh and aged cheese of both varieties, sometimes flavoured with chives or pepper. Please ask her in person.
